In Saxony-Anhalt, the landscape framework plans (LRP) are to be revised in the coming years. Many of them date back to the 1990s and no longer fulfil today’s requirements. The state is therefore funding requirement studies to clarify whether and to what extent an update is necessary. In the districts of Jerichower Land, Altmarkkreis Salzwedel and Saalekreis, FJP was commissioned to carry out such requirement studies – in each case as a first step towards sustainable landscape planning that takes into account challenges such as climate change, the energy and transport transition and the protection of nature and the landscape.
The aim of the requirement studies is to

to determine the need to update existing LRP – with special consideration of new topics and current data bases,

to draw up a concept for updating, including a provisional table of contents, time and work plan and cost estimate,

and to draw up a service description for the subsequent invitation to tender for the planning services.
In the district of Jerichower Land, for example, in addition to developing a modern processing concept, the focus is on updating the biotope landscape, stabilising the landscape water balance, information on species support programmes and trends in landscape development.
In the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel, whose landscape framework plan was finalised in 2018, a review is pending despite the comparatively recent planning status, as current topics such as open-space photovoltaics, low water situations or the suitability of areas for compensation measures have so far been insufficiently considered.
In the Saalekreis district, biotope networks and measures for climate protection and climate adaptation are the focus of the update of the landscape framework planning. The implementation of biodiversity strategies also plays an important role. These topics are to be taken into account as part of a modular update.
