In autumn 2016, FJP designed a three-part series of events focused on public participation for the “LSG Hönower Weiherkette” maintenance and development concept. From 2017 onwards, we implemented these plans, primarily because the proposal to introduce grazing in parts of the landscape protection area required careful coordination with users, residents and professionals.
Subsequently, we held planning workshops in January and April 2017 at the “Haus am Beerenpfuhl”, which sits directly on the Hönower Weiherkette. These events were attracting around 50 participants each time. After delivering introductory keynote speeches, we organised small groups to work on different aspects of the maintenance and development plan. Initially, citizens participated in working groups addressing “Recreation/Path Connections/Important Places” and “Nature Conservation/Grazing”. Then, during the second workshop, attention shifted to examining already developed variants.
Throughout these sessions, moderators focused on two essential questions: “HOW WILL GRAZING FUNCTION WELL IN THE HÖNOWER WEIHERKETTE?” and “HOW + WHERE CAN WE CREATE RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES?”
Our methodology combined both intuitive and discursive elements within a structured discussion format, which proved highly popular with participants. As a result, we gathered numerous interesting ideas and valuable feedback while fostering a productive atmosphere that encouraged networking.
Finally, a well-attended closing event took place in December 2017, providing opportunities for robust discussions about the conceptual decisions. Most proposals received widespread approval from attendees. During this meeting, grazing and green space maintenance experts addressed detailed questions, while district administration officials, together with the councillor for economy, streets and green spaces, outlined specific plans for implementation beginning in 2018.
