Since 2017, the urban development funding programme ‘’Zukunft Stadtgrün‘’ has been promoting measures to develop green infrastructure with funding from the federal government and the federal states. The aim is to improve the quality of life and housing as well as social participation, the urban climate and environmental justice. Based on the open space development concept we developed under the guiding principle ‘’Gropiusstadt bewegt‘’ (Gropiusstadt on the move), funding totalling around €13.2 million (gross) was acquired for Gropiusstadt for the years 2017 to 2025. This was used to finance around 19 individual measures to improve the quality of public spaces.
To support the client – represented by Katharina Smaldino, the commissioner for people with disabilities – FUGMANN JANOTTA PARTNER took on the project management for 15 of these individual measures with a total value of around €12.4 million. This essentially involved coordinating the timely realisation of planning and construction as well as cost control, including checking the invoices of the planning offices and construction companies involved. FJP also acted as an intermediary between the client, the specialised departments of the district to be involved and the contractors.
The realised “Zukunft Stadtgrün” projects include, for example, the central green corridor (Rehwaldt Landschaftsarchitekten, 2019-2024), the Gropius Mile (bgmr Landschaftsarchitekten, 2019-2021) and the outdoor areas of the Efeuweg campus (Hennigsen Landschaftsarchitekten, 2019-2025). The upgrading of the Wildhüterweg adventure playground (2020-2021) and the Lipschitzbrunnen fountain (2018-2019), which renvation was managed by our office, are also part of the qualification measures. Furthermore, Kuhl | Frenzel developed a new signage and orientation system (2020-2024) and a design manual (2020-2022) for the project area.
