The design “Kreuzfelder StadtNatur” by KCAP, Realace, Ramboll Studio Dreiseitl, Happold Ingenieurbüro and FJP was selected as one of the three finalists by the expert jury on 09.09.2021.
The aim of the urban development competition is to build a new quarter with 3000 residential units on the 80 ha site in the north of Cologne. “With the new Kreuzfeld district, we are creating a liveable, mixed and green neighbourhood that will attract great supraregional attention,” emphasises Cologne’s Lord Mayor Henriette Reker. The proposal of our “Kreuzfelder StadtNatur” team strengthens the existing green corridors running from north to south. By means of these three landscape corridors, the 80 ha site is divided into four areas with diverse open spaces. An east-west running strongly programmed spine divides the neighbourhoods into two neighbourhoods, which are connected by a development and infrastructure ring. Each neighbourhood functions on its own and together with Blumenberg forms an integrated structure that can be developed in stages. The neighbourhoods have a central public square and a mobility station.
After the three selected designs have been revised, they will be presented to the public on 27 November 2021. Finally, the winning design will be announced on 11.12.2021. The winning team will be commissioned to draw up the framework plan for Cologne-Kreuzfeld.
