Christmas in a shoebox – Giving and sending joy

Christmas in a schoebox

Small box, big impact. For the third consecutive year, colleagues gathered at FJP to engage in the Christmas spirit and support those who are not as fortunate as we are. Through the ‘Christmas in a Shoebox’   initiative, the Christian organisation Samaritan’s Purse packs and ships hundreds of thousands of shoeboxes filled with Christmas gifts for underprivileged children around the world. A wonderful reason for us to get involved as well.

In addition to preparing our own gift boxes, there is also the opportunity to volunteer at one of Samaritan’s Purse’s numerous logistics centres. One of the main tasks for volunteers is to inspect the boxes packed by donors and prepare them for their journey to the destination countries. This includes actions such as taping up hygiene items like shower gel to prevent them from leaking during transit. Additionally, the import regulations of the recipient countries must be adhered to – for example, it is prohibited to send cash or medication.

While inspecting thousands of boxes takes considerable time, it is an incredibly rewarding task. Opening each box brings excitement and awakens a sense of childlike anticipation – what could be inside? Sweets, a wonderful toy, or perhaps useful and valuable school supplies? With each box, we share in the joy of the children receiving the gifts, carefully repack everything, and look forward to contributing to “Christmas Shoebox” again next year.

Merry Christmas!
