Guest lecture on environmental construction monitoring at the University of Greifswald

Holger Burgardt Guest Lecture University of Greifswald

For the eighth time, Holger Burgardt, our Unit Manager of Environmental Construction Monitoring, accepted Prof. Martin Wilmking‘s invitation to give a guest lecture at the Institute of Botany and Landscape Ecology at the University of Greifswald. The event “Nature conservation project monitoring / environmental construction monitoring” took place on 11 January 2024 as part of the bachelor’s degree course in Landscape Ecology and Nature Conservation.

Holger Burgardt informed students about current landscape ecology professional practice during his 90-minute lecture. In addition to addressing key issues — when, where and how environmental monitoring makes sense — he gave insights into his day-to-day work. He also familiarised the students with the numerous areas of responsibility and thematic focuses of an environmental construction monitoring. Using several projects that FUGMANN JANOTTA PARTNER is currently supporting as examples, Holger Burgardt presented the various work steps from conceptualisation to actual construction site support. The projects mentioned included the complex demolition on the site of the former Krampnitz barracks in Potsdam. He also highlighted the points of contact between the study of landscape ecology and the practical job description of an environmental construction supervisor.

The final Q&A session rounded off the guest lecture. A wide range of questions were asked about the job profile and the implementation of nature and species conservation in practice. The students’ sometimes critical questions about the implementation of projects were answered competently, providing a comprehensive insight into the professional world of environmental planning and environmental construction monitoring. We hope that this guest lecture will once again inspire some of the students to take up the profession of environmental construction supervisor.
