A condominium owners’ association (WEG) on Belziger Straße in Berlin-Schöneberg commissioned FJP to redesign the property’s first courtyard. The planning and construction project was successfully completed and aligns both spatially and aesthetically with the already renovated second courtyard. The primary objective was to significantly enhance the quality of the outdoor space while translating functional requirements into a high-quality and sustainable landscape design.
A key planning criterion was ensuring vehicular access across the courtyard to maintain access from Belziger Straße to the garage located in the second courtyard. At the same time, great emphasis was placed on creating a design that minimises barriers and improves accessibility for all users.
The new layout subtly integrates essential infrastructure—such as waste disposal and bicycle parking areas—into the overall design, both functionally and visually. By increasing the proportion of greenery and organising functional zones in a clear, structured manner, the courtyard was transformed into a liveable, well-defined open space with a high level of comfort and usability.
The planning process began with the development of three design options, which were presented to the WEG for review and discussion. Based on the preferred concept, a final design was developed and further refined in close collaboration with the owners’ association. Following the acquisition of all necessary permits, the project proceeded to detailed design, tendering, and construction. Contractor proposals submitted by members of the WEG were considered during the procurement phase.
