On 12 July 2024, the cornerstone was ceremoniously laid for the new national headquarters of BUND (Bund für Umwelt und Naturschutz Deutschland) in Berlin-Neukölln. The ecological and sustainable five-storey timber hybrid building will be finished by mid-2026. Once completed, the building designed by SMAQ will offer space for up to 180 workstations, several seminar and meeting rooms. Furthermore, green spaces in the inner courtyard and on the roof will create high-quality recreational areas. The site is set to become an attractive place to work and meet neighbours. Overall, it will provide a long-term home for BUND’s environmental and nature conservation work.
At the cornerstone ceremony, Olaf Bandt, Chairman of BUND emphasised: ‘Our Future House will be an ecological and sustainable meeting place. In Neukölln, we are building in line with BUND’s requirements for nature and environmental protection. We have demolished an existing warehouse, planned to save space and part of an already sealed area will be unsealed again. With BUND in Neukölln, things will become greener in the truest sense of the word. Today’s laying of the foundation stone is an important milestone for the new BUND building.’
As part of the planning team, we are looking forward to designing the outdoor facilities of the new building. Further information on the BUND cornerstone ceremony can be found on the BUND website and YouTube Channel.
