On 17 July 2025, the second public event concerning the development of the new urban neighbourhood “Dreieck Späthsfelde” in Berlin took place at the historic Späth’sche Baumschule (Späth Arboretum). Three interdisciplinary planning teams – including FJP in collaboration with CKSA and Hoffmann-Leichter – presented initial conceptual ideas for the approximately 100-hectare planning area located between Baumschulenweg and the Hufeisensiedlung.
Our team’s proposal focuses on creating a compact, multifunctional, and sustainable neighbourhood comprising around 4,000 homes. The design emphasises a dense, resource-efficient urban fabric in order to preserve key landscape and allotment structures – in particular the adjacent tree nursery and parts of the surrounding garden plots. The goal is to develop a vibrant district characterised by short distances, social diversity, and strong community ties.
Following the presentations, an open dialogue was held with local residents. The wealth of feedback and suggestions from the neighbourhood forms an important part of the ongoing planning process.
The project is part of the preparatory studies under § 165 (4) of the German Building Code (BauGB), which were initiated by the Berlin Senate in June 2023. Since October 2024, these have been supported by in-depth analyses and participatory formats.
