“Duisburg’s new urbanity” – since the turn of the year, this is how a 1st billboard on the site of the old freight station announces the “Duisburg Dunes”. However, it will be some time before the first building activities can be seen. The development plan is currently being drawn up. At the end of the process, probably in autumn 2025, the legally binding development plan will be in place. The area will then be developed into an urban, future-oriented quarter on the basis of this plan.
After winning the urban and open space planning competition, FUGMANN JANOTTA PARTNER is currently working with CKSA on the master plan to define the urban character and design of the open spaces for the development area. Duisburg’s new urbanity will be a mix of living and working, combined with a generous open space – the Dünenpark. The new quarter in the heart of the city will be completed by 2032.
