Harald Fugmann was invited as a keynote speaker to the joint workshop of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Planning and the Kommunales Nachbarschaftsforum Berlin-Brandenburg e.V. (KNF) on 8 November 2023. He spoke to numerous representatives of Berlin’s districts and Brandenburg under the title “Open space facing densification — climate adaptation — and post-corona”. The focus was on current challenges and trends in urban open space development.
Using current urban and open space planning projects from our office, he was able to explain the specific methods and content for resilient and liveable neighbourhoods. The projects discussed at the KNF workshop are a representative mosaic of different urban spaces. In addition to Gropiusstadt, Friedrichshain-West, the plans for the new “Alte Schäferei” residential district in Berlin-Pankow and the BE-U | Behrensufer innovation site were discussed. What all the projects have in common is the combination of ecological sensitivity and functional design of the limited urban open space.
