The Berlin Senate has approved the structure and land-use concept for the new urban quarter “Dreieck Späthsfelde”. This marks an important milestone in the further development of the approximately 100-hectare site in Treptow-Köpenick.
Under the guiding principle of a “compact neighbourhood in a green setting”, the area is to be developed as a mixed-use, climate-resilient urban quarter with around 2,500 homes, social and cultural infrastructure, a new school site and approximately twelve hectares of commercial space. Around half of the study area is designated for green and open spaces. The Späth tree nurseries, the Humboldt University Arboretum and existing allotment gardens will remain defining elements of the site.
The approved concept is based on the proposal developed by our planning team together with CKSA and HOFFMANN-LEICHTER, which was selected for further development in the 2025 qualification process. FJP is responsible for the landscape planning, with a particular focus on open space, ecology, climate adaptation and rainwater management. A coherent green and open-space network connects existing landscape structures with new parks, habitat areas and retention spaces.
Following the Senate’s decision, the project is now entering the second stage of the process: the structure and land-use concept will be further developed and translated into a framework plan. This will provide the planning basis for the next stages of the new urban quarter’s development.
Further information is available on the project page of the Berlin Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Housing.
