After commencing the preliminary planning of Schönhauser Allee 9 in February 2019, we were granted the building permit for the NEO project in December that same year. This was a terrific result, which we achieved for the client as part of a team together with Pott Architects and all other technical planners involved.
The aim of the project is to build a high-quality commercial structure. Situated on an exposed site, the intra-urban property will get a new building, which, as an elongated structure in the center of the premise, will close the gap between two existing buildings. The outdoor space is formed by both the new building and the brick walls of the old bordering buildings. This creates several interconnected yards. Their aesthetics stem to a great degree from the new building and the old brick walls, with the yards serving as a path to the neighboring premises. Vegetation is used as urban nature. For example, there are wall-climbing plants, green islands on the surfaces, rooftop gardens and roof terraces. Thematically interlocked with each other, both the building and the outdoor area create a versatile working place, which offers diverse opportunities on the roofs and in the yard of the outdoor area. Rainwater is collected on all building roofs (retention roof) to be used for greening and air-cooling. This enhances the climatic conditions for this intra-urban and working space, giving it an additional quality. We are looking forward to taking the next steps in this project.
